Purpose and Scope
The concept of developmental education finds its roots in some of Vygotsky's works from 1932 to 1934, in which he explored the relationship between learning and development, concluding that learning should lead development.
The section aims to facilitate communication among researchers working actively in relation to developmental education, at any educational level from preschool to adult education. Various models and approaches to developmental education have been developed since Vygotsky’s initial analyses. Consequently, a variety of theoretical and practical perspectives will be found among section members, along with a broad spectrum of interests, such as designing teaching plans, conducting teaching experiments, analyzing subject matter, and supporting professional development.
Activities within the section will reflect actual interests and substantive work of the section members.
Status
A proposal to start a Developmental Education section within ISCAR was accepted by the ISCAR Executive Committee in December 2024. The infrastucture for becoming a member of the section is still under construction. When it is available, a full announcement will be sent to all ISCAR members.
