It was decided to have the next meeting of the committee in the spring 2003 in Sevilla. The date, probably in April, will be specified later. Seth Chaiklin was elected president of the ISCAR.
It was decided to discuss the name and the languages of the association at the next executive committee meeting.
Seth Chaiklin promised to explore possibilities of arranging the bank account of the ISCAR and the available methods of payment. It was suggested that individual members explore the possibility of receiving payment through their institution. The committee will discuss the problem through e-mail and try to have a resolution no later than September. The treasurer will be elected after that discussion.
It was decided that the ISCAR membership fee will be $50 USD or $25 USD. This amount will covers membership for the remainder of 2002 and the entire calendar year 2003. Each individual member can decide which amount to pay. In case a member has difficulty in paying the fee, she or he should contact the president of ISCAR to discuss an exceptional arrangement.
The chairman asked the members of the executive committee to look for possibilities of arranging discounts for journals and books to the members of the ISCAR.
Seth Chaiklin will explore whether institutional membership can be made possible.
The members's views of the main tasks of the executive committee were discussed. The committee was seen to be an organ for dissemination of information about regional seminars and workshops, supporting the arrangement of those, involving new persons to the cooperation, developing the identity and profile of the society as well as disseminating knowledge of it and its activities. Rather than being a scientific decision maker the committee was seen as an organizer and catalyst.
The chairman explained the previous practice in preparing the Newsletter. The production of the Newsletter and development of the website will be discussed in the coming months.
